A man has been arrested for allegedly robbing a bank in Durham

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A tip led Durham Police to a man suspected of robbing a bank last Friday.

Steven Richardson is accused of robbing the State Employees Credit Union on Friday and trying to rob a First Citizens Bank earlier in the day.

Police said two hours before the SECU robbery, Richardson went into the First Citizens Bank at 4004 North Roxboro Street and told the tellers "This is a stickup." He then said he was joking and left.

Richardson allegedly later entered the SECU in a hat, a blue shirt, and sunglasses and demanded money. No weapon was seen and he fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Richardson is being held at the Durham County Jail.
