SANFORD, N.C. (WTVD) -- Loved ones are beginning the process of saying goodbye to a man killed in a construction accident last week. Concrete was being poured onto a pedestrian bridge on Wake Tech's Northern Campus Thursday morning when it suddenly collapsed. At its highest point, first responders say the bridge is 40 feet tall.

Four men survived the fall. Jose Luis Rosales-Nava, 42, did not. His family held a visitation for him at Knotts Funeral Home in Sanford on Sunday. The day before, his wife Sonia Lopez told reporters she wants answers.

"Unfortunately, he lost his life at work. He went to work where supposedly the day before they had passed inspection. If that inspection had in fact passed, then the bridge would not have come down by a bit of concrete being laid," said Lopez.

She said her husband was an architect in Mexico and was a hard worker who was dedicated to his job and to his family.

The construction company over the expansion project at Wake Tech Northern is Skanska. While a federal investigation is also underway, the company's vice president said he is committed to finding out what went wrong.

For the funeral, the family will take Rosales-Nava to Mexico.

As for the other men hurt in the accident, we know one man is out of the hospital. At last check the other three were in good and fair condition at WakeMed.
