Woman who hit 4 cyclists near Angier charged
ANGIER, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol has charged a woman who hit four cyclists in Johnston County last weekend with reckless driving and other charges.
It happened Saturday in the Angier area on Massengill Pond Road. Troopers said 50-year-old Donnie Marie Williams of Angier was traveling north near Sue Drive when she hit a group of bikers while trying to pass them.
Two of the cyclists reportedly suffered head injuries. Lynn Lashley, 57, and Mike Dayton, 60, were still at WakeMed Thursday. Chris Graham, 34, suffered a broken leg and other injuries. Joel Lawrence, 57, suffered bruised ribs and scrapes.
Lawrence told ABC11 after the crash that he didn't hear the car coming up behind the group and didn't see a car coming the other way.
The day of the crash, Williams told ABC11 she tried to pass the group, but there was a car coming in the other direction and she turned back into the cyclists.
Investigators said the bikers were riding in a single file and were wearing reflective clothing.
In addition to the reckless driving charge, Williams is charged with improper passing in a curve and four counts of improper passing causing serious bodily injury.
Bond was set at $2,000.
