Animals seized from Wake Co. home receiving treatment
WILLOW SPRING (WTVD) -- Animals seized from a Wake County home are getting the treatment they need, but their future is still uncertain.
ABC11 was there on Eddie Howard Road in Willow Spring Thursday as Wake County Animal Control officers raided a home, pulling out several dogs, cats, and one bird.
The owner, who officials have not named, was handcuffed and brought in for questioning; she has not been charged.
Dr. Jennifer Federico did not reveal how many animals her team seized from the house, but said Friday the owner has not surrendered the animals for adoption. They are being held at the shelter while the investigation continues.
Federico said often times, Animal Control is tipped off to cases of hoarding or animal abuse by neighbors, passers by, or even family members who feel compelled to report it.
"When we have these bigger cases, everyone has the right intent and the good heart, they just become overwhelmed and it's really easy to become overwhelmed," said Federico.
Neither Federico nor the Wake County Sheriff's Office is releasing specific details about what led up to Thursday's raid, but Federico said there are times when cases aren't what they seem.
"We want to get to the bottom of it," she said. "It could be absolutely nothing and we just go out there, make contact. And sometimes we've gone out there and we're like, 'Wow, this person just really needs to get updated on their rabies vaccine, we can help you with that.'"
