RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The top Democrat in the North Carolina House of Representatives says his chief legislative aide lost her job because House Speaker Thom Tillis had a score to settle.

Minority Leader Larry Hall made the accusation at a news conference at the legislative building Tuesday.

Hall's chief of staff, Kimberly Reynolds, was let go as of June 30 - despite Hall's insistence she was vital in aiding Democrats in the house.

Hall claims Speaker Tillis made the decision to cut Reynold's $73,000 salary from his budget because Hall refused to apologize for blasting new GOP-backed rules against loud demonstrations at the General Assembly.

Hall said Tillis is abusing his power to persecute house Democrats.

Speaker Tillis' office told ABC11 it does not comment on personnel matters.
