Experts say if you have had something on your to-do list for more than a few months you might want to consider outsourcing the job if possible.

Today, it's easier to outsource your personal project or hire a skilled professional in thousands of areas using an online marketplace called Thumbtack.

Thumbtack CEO and Co-Founder Marco Zappacosta says the idea for the service started from a very simple concept.

"We stumbled upon this problem: Why is it so hard to hire a plumber?" Zappacosta explained.

He figured there had to be a better way and Thumbtack was born in 2009.

"Thumbtack helps customers connect with local service professionals like plumbers, caters, tutors, for whatever project they're trying to accomplish," Zappacosta said. "What they need to do is come to Thumbtack, tell us what you need to get done, and we'll send that out to our network of pros and the ones that are available, interested and qualified, get introduced directly to you."

Today, there are more than 200,000 professionals across the nation using the service to connect with new customers and grow their business.

Zappacosta says if a pro wants to bid on a job, they pay a one time fee to Thumbtack to make the introduction.

"Our goal is to empower these professionals that have time and have talent by helping them find new customers online," he said. "You shouldn't have to worry about that side of your business to earn a living. Our dream is to help these folks build great profiles, connect with customers and build more business than ever before."
