Fayetteville girl helps homeless every Christmas season

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- When 9-year-old Alysia Allen's mother asked the child how she wanted to help the homeless, Alysia had some big ideas.

"What about a house?" she wondered aloud. "Can we buy them a house?"

Mom replied, "No."

"Just buy them a car, then," Alysia asked.

When Alysia's mom asked her to think of something more reasonably priced, she realized it was really cold outside, and came up with her nonprofit called "Blankets of Faith."

For the past three years, the Harvest Preparatory Academy student has gathered blankets to give the homeless and battered women. Each Christmas Eve she sets out with her parents, James and Archita Graves, and delivers them the Salvation Army, the Fayetteville Police Department, shelters, and people walking along downtown streets.

This year, the Fayetteville girl collected about 100 blankets.

The blankets are donated by classmates, family and friends, and a GoFundMe page for BOF is listed on Alysia's Facebook page for the nonprofit.

"I feel blessed to be able to help people who need this," said Alysia.
