Helping Hand Mission seeks fans, air conditioners
A Wake County organization that tries to make sure families stay cool is collecting fans and air conditioning units, but they can't keep them on the shelves.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Wake County organization that tries to make sure families stay cool is collecting fans and air conditioning units, but they can't keep them on the shelves.

For days, people have lined up at the Helping Hand Mission in Raleigh in hopes of getting a fan or an A/C unit.

"We gave out Saturday all day, I felt so bad people were calling in. We didn't have a single fan or A/C, said Sylvia Wiggins, of the Helping Hand Mission.

Just as soon as someone donates some, Wiggins gives them out.

"Recently, we've just been bombarded with people going through all kind of crisis and not having any kind of cool down," said Wiggins. "It's been bad."

So Wiggins is asking people across the Triangle to remember your neighbors who are living without the ability to cool off.

"People cannot afford to get something to cool off the house," said Wiggins. "We just want to be able to help families. The need is great."
