RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina State quarterback Jakobi Meyers is healthy enough to make it a three-man competition for the starting job again.

Coach Dave Doeren said Wednesday the redshirt freshman participated in drills fully for the first time in training camp after recovering from an ankle injury. Meyers had been limited from a sprained ankle suffered in the summer, an injury Doeren said came from playing basketball.

Meyers competed against redshirt sophomore Jalan McClendon in the spring to run new coordinator Eli Drinkwitz's offense. Then the team added graduate transfer Ryan Finley, who had played under Drinkwitz at Boise State.

McClendon and Finley had been the focus of the position so far, but Doeren said Meyers was healthy enough to "compete and have a chance to be in the rotation."

"He was flying around, making plays and hopefully he can build off of today," Doeren said.

N.C. State is installing its 2-minute offense ahead of its first intrasquad scrimmage Saturday.

"Now he's got to take advantage of the reps," Doeren said, "because we're about five or six days from cutting the (third-teamers) out. So we'll see where we're at by Sunday."

N.C. State opens Sept. 1 against William & Mary.
