Each week, I'll write about the sport I love: college basketball.

The Duke recruiting machine rolls on. Duke continues to rack up commitments with the addition of big man Harry Giles. He will miss this high school season with a torn ACL but should come to Durham healthy next season.

Lots of injury news. North Carolina's Marcus Paige will miss the start of the season with a broken bone in his nonshooting hand. Oregon's Dylan Ennis will likely miss all of November with a foot injury; he transferred from Villanova. Florida will be without Alex Murphy for a month with a foot issue as well. Maryland's Dion Wiley is out with a knee injury.

Congratulations to Michigan coach John Beilein, who received an additional two years on his contract extension. He is now signed up through 2020-21.

Dereck Whittenburg will not be an assistant with NC State this season. He has been promoted within the athletic department.

UNLV suspended guard Daquan Cook for the first 13 games of the season after a DUI situation. Young men have to learn the hard way.

Some preseason exhibition scores can be eye-openers. Iowa lost to the top Division II squad, Augustana. St. John's was blown out by St. Thomas Aquinas before winning its second game, over Sonoma State.Cal State-Monterey Bay upset Utah State.

There will be excitement in the Big Apple as diaper dandiesBen Simmons of LSU and Henry Ellenson of Marquettewill be on display at the Legends Classic at Barclays Center on Nov. 23-24. NC State and Bobby Hurley'sArizona State squad round out this exciting field.
