2 hurt in crash east of Fuquay-Varina
A car sideswiped a dump truck at N.C. Highway 42 and Barber Bridge Road.

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (WTVD) -- Witnesses told ABC11 Monday that a car sideswiped a dump truck at N.C. Highway 42 and Barber Bridge Road east of Fuquay-Varina in the Willow Spring area.

It happened just before 9 a.m. Pictures from the scene showed the car with heavy damage.

After the accident, the dump truck clipped another vehicle and continued on into a field, knocking over a fire hydrant and a street sign before stopping beside the highway.

"I looked to the right and I looked to the left, and the dump truck was out of control and sliding through," said Gary Vance, the driver of the vehicle that was clipped. "By the grace of God, he clipped my truck. And the dump truck driver and myself's okay and my worker's okay, but my truck's gotta be towed!"

The driver of the dump truck said he was too shaken to talk on camera, but told ABC11 that he saw Vance's face seconds before he lost control and feared the worst.

The two people inside the car were taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

"A guy that was following said the car was swerving all over the road since Highway 50, and he had been following, trying to get the Highway Patrol but they didn't have anybody that could come," Vance said. "There was a girl [inside the car]; [she] was awake and shaking. The guy, I couldn't tell if he was awake or not. His head was kinda down, so I don't know."

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
