Dump truck driver charged after wreck near Fuquay-Varina

A dump-truck driver has been charged after an accident that blocked traffic for several hours Monday at Piney Grove-Wilbon Road and West Academy Street near Fuquay-Varina.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the dump truck driver, Wilbert Gregory, 59, of Oxford, is charged with a stoplight violation.

Troopers said Gregory apparently ran a red light and collided with the passenger side of a pickup.

The pickup driver, who was not identified, was not injured.

Gregory's dump truck rolled on its side, with its load spilled into the roadway. Responders worked to clear the debris from the road.

The intersection reopened shortly after 7 p.m.

Gregory was taken to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries.
