Fuel spill closes lanes on I-40/I-85 in Alamance Co.

A fuel spill on I-40/I-85 closed three of four lanes on Thursday morning, causing major traffic delays near Burlington.

It happened on the westbound lanes near Mile Marker 142, near NC-62, around 9 a.m.

State Highway Patrol, Burlington Fire, and Burlington Emergency Management were on the scene.

Chopper 11 HD was also over the scene, showing traffic backed up for miles.

It is not yet known if anyone was injured.

Authorities managed to keep one lane open for motorists. The entire road is expected to reopen Thursday afternoon.
