Serious accident blocks NB lanes of I-95 in Johnston County.

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A serious crash blocked the northbound lanes of I-95 on Saturday.

It happened in Johnston County near exit 101.

According to Highway Patrol, a Jeep Cherokee was towing a small trailer, and did not slow down with the traffic.

The Jeep flipped two or three times into the left lane. Three pick-up trucks went off the road and into the median to avoid the Jeep.

The pick-up trucks were all damaged, though none of them actually hit the Jeep. A fifth car collided with the Jeep's trailer.

The Jeep driver was taken to Wake Med, but authorities said the injuries are not serious.

Authorities charged the Jeep driver with failure to reduce speed.

Traffic was detoured off the highway at Pittman Road while the accident was cleared.

I-95 northbound was shut down for almost two hours. The road reopened around 6:45 p.m.
