State investigators will look into Outer Banks gas prices.

MANTEO, N.C. -- The state Attorney General's Office will look into complaints about gasoline prices along the Outer Banks that are above the state average.

The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk, Virginia, reported gas prices were about $2.25 a gallon Friday, which exceeds the state average by about 20 cents. The price also exceeds some Elizabeth City prices by as much as 30 cents.

The Dare County Board of Commissioners sent a letter Jan. 20 asking state Attorney General Roy Cooper to investigate. Attorney general spokeswoman Noelle Talley says the office "will definitely take a look."

Dare County Manager Bobby Outten says gas station owners tell him that they're not overcharging and profit margins are slim.

Talley says the attorney general also gets complaints from Moore County, where the Pinehurst golf courses are located.
