LEE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado that touched down in Lee County on Saturday was an EF-1, packing winds of 105 mph.
The NWS made that confirmation on Sunday after surveying the damage.
Officials said the twister came down along the banks of the Deep River. It was only on the ground for a few minutes.
That was still long enough, though, to bring down trees and tear shingles off a house.
On Sunday, officials wanted to emphasize that when an alert is sent about a tornado warning, anyone in the area should take shelter immediately.
