RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- First Alert-Turning Colder: Wet roads could lead to some wet travel slow-downs at times today. Arctic air arrives this weekend behind a strong cold front. Highs Saturday will be in the upper 40s and temps for most of the day Sunday will in the 30s with lows in the teens Sunday night.
Seasonably Cool: Good morning! Out-the-door temps are in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Highs will be in the upper 40s to low 50s with some sunny breaks at times.
Few Showers Today: While there is nothing on radar as of this writing, we should see showers develop across the Carolinas this morning as the disturbance digs across the Appalachians. A rumble of thunder will be possible.
A blast of Arctic air will surge into the eastern United States late tonight and into the weekend, which will bring much colder air just in time for the official start of Winter.
Winter Arrives: Winter officially arrives with the Solstice Saturday at 4:21am ET. Highs Saturday will be in the mid/upper 40s with lows in the mid 20a. Highs Sunday will be in the mid 30s to near 40. Lows Sunday night will drop into the teens.
Below normal temps will continue into the start of Christmas week. Monday will be sunny and cold with highs in the low 40s and lows in the 20s. Christmas Eve will be partly cloudy with highs near 50. A spotty shower will be possible Christmas Day with a slightly higher chance for rain Christmas night. Morning temps will be in the 30s. Highs Christmas Day will be in the low to mid 50s.
