Meals on Wheels of Durham needs help
Meals on Wheels of Durham need more drivers to help out.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A lot of nonprofits say the summer is a slow time for donations, however, Meals on Wheels of Durham has a different challenge on their hands.

The organization feeds hundreds of people every day, with the need increasing as the population ages.

The group recently received grants to get more meals out to people who can't leave the house or can't afford it, but that means they need more drivers to help out.

"It is so easy to get involved, then it is so rewarding to meet the people that you meet on the routes," said Sarah Stack, who has been volunteering for two years.

She says she spends two hours a week volunteering with Meals on Wheels and says the recipients are grateful.

"I can only speak to myself, but everyone I have dealt with from Meals on Wheels has been very nice, very sharp, and it's always very nice to see them," said Margaret Campbell, a retired teacher who receives hot meals from volunteers.

The executive director with the nonprofit says anyone can volunteer once a week, once a month, or even every day.
