Multiple dead after shooting in Caswell County

Officials emphasized there is no threat to the general public.

PROSPECT HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- Multiple people were shot and several people were killed Wednesday morning at a home in Caswell County, according to authorities.

The Caswell County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded just before 8 a.m. to a home at 352 Brooks Road in the Prospect Hill community.

When deputies arrived, they found multiple people who had been shot. Authorities said one person was taken to Duke University Hospital with a gunshot wound, while multiple other people died at the scene.

Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation shortly after the shooting was discovered.

SBI crime scene investigators remained at the scene Wednesday processing evidence and conducting interviews as investigators worked to determine what happened.

Officials emphasized there is no threat to the general public and said the incident is contained to the property on Brooks Road.

The Caswell County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the SBI, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the Prospect Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Caswell County EMS and the Person County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities are working to notify next of kin. Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
