SC man killed in wrong-way crash on I-95

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C.

Troopers don't know what caused a 74-year-old South Carolina man to get confused and drive onto the wrong side of the highway and hit another car nearly head-on just before 5 p.m. at the I-40 intersection near Dunn.

Trooper Christopher Bell says he got the call moments before the wreck happened. Right now, they don't know what led Walter Dorsey to steer his Saturn into a BMW.

"The driver, I don't know if he ended up dying because of his injuries or if it was something beforehand," said Bell.

The other driver, a Fayetteville woman, is bruised and a little battered but okay. Troopers say she saw what happened in nick of time.

"Luckily, the second driver saw what was happened and jerked her car out of the way," said Bell.

At one point, all of the southbound lanes of traffic were closed near mile marker 82. They reopened later Tuesday night.
