RALEIGH (WTVD) -- This week, The City of Raleigh is the center of the Bluegrass music world.

Thursday, Raleigh will host the biggest night of the year for Bluegrass musicians ahead of the 2014 Wide Open Bluegrass Festival, which kicks off Friday.

The 28th annual International Bluegrass Music Awards will be held at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are still available online or at the Center's box office.

Lots of artists and fans are already in town for the event.

Overnight, many of them jammed out all around the Raleigh Convention Center. ABC11 captured musicians in every available hallway or open space, standing around, holding impromptu jam sessions -- big names in the field playing with no names, all for the joy of simply making music.

Organizers and fans agree that it's a no-brainer to hold the International Bluegrass Awards in Raleigh with the rich tradition we have in our state.

Artists will be arriving for a Red Carpet event before the awards show, beginning at 5:30 p.m. So you might want to come out early to snap some photos of your favorites.
