CLAYTON, NC (WTVD) -- Newborn babies can often mean sleepless nights, but for the Parrish family it's the heat, not the newborn, that's keeping them up at night.

"It's hot. It's very hot," Robert Parrish said.

That's why he and his family sit inside their air-conditioned minivan making sure their newborn son Aaron can keep cool. Without AC, the temperature in the house can get up to the high 80s.

"They expect me to keep a baby inside a home that's 86 to 92 degrees?" Danielle Parrish said. "That's unsafe."

It wasn't the first HVAC breakdown for the Parrishs. The family moved into their new Lennar home last fall and since then there been HVAC problems. Robert said the heat went out twice in the winter.

"During the ice storm, we were actually using the stove to heat the house," he said.

Each time the system would break down, the Parrish's say Lennar would send a crew to fix it, but once warmer temperatures hit, they started having problems with their AC.

"The day that we were supposed to bring him home, our AC broke and it was close to 83 degrees in the house and I wasn't gonna bring him home in that," Danielle said.

Again, the Parrishs say Lennar sent technicians out and the AC would work for a limited period of time. Then it would break down again.

"I just thought 'Well, maybe it's a fluke' the second time, and then the third time happened and then the fourth, the fifth the sixth," Robert said.

Each time, they would hear that it was a different problem.

"It's been parts breaking and claiming no Freon all these things claiming the last person has missed that something was different," Danielle said. "Something else is wrong."

They wanted a new unit.

"This is it for me," said Danielle. "I'm with a baby. I can't do it."

The Parrishs reached out to me and I got in touch with Lennar.

"Once you guys got involved, that's when we got the new unit," Robert said.

Instead of another repair, the Parrishs say Lennar had a crew install a new HVAC unit and gave them another year warranty.

With a cool house again, everyone is happy, including the new baby.

"Now that we have AC the baby is sleeping, so of course with the baby sleeping we can sleep again," Robert said.

A representative from Lennar said they address all requests directly with homeowners with the goals of providing them the best possible quality home.
