Apex police make arrest in 5 armed robberies
Police say they've solved two armed robberies in the Apex area along with three in surrounding cities

APEX, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Apex Police Department has charged a man in two recent armed robberies and said he's a suspect in three more in surrounding cities.

Daniel Wayne Callis, 53, of Sanford, was arrested in Emporia Virginia on two warrants.

He's accused of holdups at a Subway on East Williams Street Nov. 28 and a robbery at an ABC liquor store on the same street Dec. 8.

Callis is a suspect in similar holdups in Durham, Butner, and Sanford. Charges are pending for the robbery of the Smoker Friendly store on Highway 56 in Butner on Dec. 13 and for the robbery of the Tobacco Road Outlet on Bragg Street in Sanford on Dec. 2.

Callis was released from prison in 2013. He was convicted of robbing a GNC Store in Apex in 2008.
