Brazen heist caught on tape
A man and a woman were caught on tape stealing for a Cary consignment shop

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Cary police are working to identify the man and woman caught on surveillance video robbing a Cary boutique on Monday, stealing several high-end consignment clothing items.

It happened around 5 p.m. at ADORE Designer Resale Boutique on NW Cary Parkway.

When owner Nancy Alinovi found out about the heist, she couldn't believe it.

"Oh no. Not again," she said. "And we thought we were smart enough now to look out for this."

In 2012, a man was convicted of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from the ADORE Boutique in North Raleigh.

On Monday, surveillance video caught two brazen thieves, a man and a woman walking through the Cary store, peeling clothes right off the racks.

"Oh, they were going after the high-ticket items," Alinovi said. "This is brazen people that seem to really know what they're doing."

The manager who was working that day had her back to the couple the entire time; she was on the phone with a security alarm company, trying to remedy their malfunctioning alarm.

Meanwhile, the man and woman can be seen on video taking clothes off the hangers. The woman stuffed several items into a large purse while the man took the clothes, bent over, and seemingly put them up his pant leg. They both put the empty hangers back on the racks and walked out separately.

Soon after they left, the manager noticed and called Alinovi, who then called her employees at the north Raleigh store to warn them. Within half an hour, workers notified Alinovi the same couple was in their store perusing the shelves. The pair quickly left without taking anything.

"Targeted," said Alinovi. "When they went straight to the other store I felt targeted."

"I don't feel completely safe," she added. "We're definitely now taking different avenues to ensure our safety."

Cary police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Crimestoppers at (919) 460-4636.
