Man charged, woman dead after Johnston County shooting
Johnston County authorities have filed charges in a fatal shooting on Condary Road near Selma.

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 19-year-old Selma woman was murdered at her home and Johnston County Sheriff's deputies have arrested 47-year-old Howard Wood in her death.

Authorities say the victim and suspect knew one another, but they were not in a relationship.

Investigators are working to figure out what led up the killing. Deputies spent Thursday combing the area with metal detectors in the 300 block of Condary Drive, where Jamel McCoy was shot and killed.

Witnesses tell ABC11 McCoy was shot in the chest. The shooting happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Mandy Sauls lives up the road from the victim and heard the shots fired.

"I had no idea what was going on," said Sauls. "I knew something had happened, but I wasn't really sure what it was [or] who had been hurt."

Wood has been charged with first-degree murder. He is being held without bond at the Johnston County Jail.
