Police say a man was critically injured in a shooting on Callahan Circle in Fayetteville Tuesday evening around 9 p.m.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Police say a man injured in a shooting in the 6900-block of Callahan Circle in Fayetteville Tuesday night has died from his injuries.

Fayetteville Police Department Lt. Todd Joyce told ABC11 that the man, later identified as 23-year-old Tyrone Alonzo Shepard, was shot while walking near his home around 9 p.m. A vehicle reportedly drove by Shepard, then turned around, and two men jumped out. The men allegedly tried to rob Shepard and then shot him multiple times.

He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition. Shepard died early Wednesday morning.

Police only have a vague description of the suspects, but they were believed to be in a silver or champagne-colored vehicle.
