DURHAM (WTVD) -- A man was shot in the 200 block of Lodge Street in Durham in what may have been a home invasion style robbery attempt.

The victim was found in the backyard of a home around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday and rushed to Duke University Hospital where he was last listed in serious condition. Police said he was shot in the groin.

Pictures from Chopper 11 HD showed officers using a dog to search for suspects after the shooting.

The victim's son identified the victim as 69-year-old Ralph Owens, who owns several properties in the area. The son said the suspects had their faces covered, and that his father did not recognize them.

Witnesses told ABC11 the suspects circled the block several times and then swarmed in.

Police are looking for three black males who were believed to have been inside a gray van.

The shooting happened near the NCCU campus and a few miles from where a man was shot and killed in a home invasion robbery around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said Wednesday they do not believe the incidents are related.
