Carolina Hall is now officially the name of a controversial building on UNC's campus

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- The controversial name of a building on The University of North Carolina's campus was officially changed Thursday.

Permanent lettering put on the former 'Saunders Hall' now reads 'Carolina Hall.' The UNC Board of Trustees voted overwhelmingly for the name change in May.

The cost to rename the building was around $12,500, according to UNC officials.

The building was originally named for alumnus and former North Carolina Secretary of State William Saunders. Multiple rallies were held urging the school to rename the building, because Saunders was a member of the KKK.
