WILSON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Police say they have made an arrest in a shooting that left a 7-year-old Wilson boy dead.

It happened just before 10 p.m. July 23 in the 400-block of Parkview Street.

According to investigators, someone fired multiple bullets into a home, striking Kamari Jones. The boy was rushed to Vidant Medical Center, but he died the next morning.

Thursday, the Wilson Police Department announced it has charged 24-year-old Montavius S. Davis - of Gardners School Road in Stantonsburg - with first-degree murder.

Investigators were at Davis' home and told ABC11 they were treating it as a crime scene.

A next door neighbor said she was bowled over by word that Davis - who she knows as "Scooter" - had been arrested.

"I was shocked when he told me it was Scooter next door. I am not joking. I was really shocked", said Sebrina Bullock. "Like I say, he does not bother nobody. What he do, you know, that's on him. But just to go by and shoot up somebody's house, I can't see him doing that. I can't see that."

Detectives said they continue to investigate and more arrests are expected. Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at (252) 243-2255 or (252) 399-2323.
