Ailing Raleigh councilman resigns

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Ailing Raleigh City Councilman Thomas Crowder resigned his post Wednesday, and by previous arrangement, his wife Kay was sworn in to replace him.

Crowder is battling testicular cancer and has exhausted all methods of treatment.

The Raleigh City Council voted unanimously earlier this month to allow Kay Crowder to serve if her husband's health forced him to step down.

Crowder was serving his sixth consecutive term on the Raleigh City Council representing District D.
