Former Duke quarterback Anthony Boone was released from the hospital Saturday after suffering serious injuries in a head-on collision with Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson.

Boone's agent, Adam Sattler, told the Charlotte Observer that Boone had surgeries for a broken hip and damage to the tendons and ligaments in his hand. The crash occurred May 22 when, according to police, Thompson said hedropped his cellphone and was reaching down to get it when he crossed the center line as the two cars approached from opposite directions in Weddington, North Carolina.

"He's got a serious road ahead of him, but we're happy he's home," Sattler told the Observer.

Boone, who was not wearing a seat belt, played for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes last season. Thompson was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
