DURHAM -- Part of the road in front of the Durham County courthouse was blocked Monday morning after a haze was reported inside the building.

Just before 10 a.m., fire trucks rushed to the Durham Justice Center after a fire alarm went off inside.

Durham fire officials said a haze was reported in a stairwell of the building, which was closed for the Labor Day holiday.

Dillard Street between South Roxboro and Mangum streets was closed while fire crews searched the Durham Justice Center. Paramedics were also on standby as a precaution.

Durham firefighters checked every floor of the courthouse using thermal imaging equipment, according to officials.

Following the search, it appeared some type of unit - possible an ac unit - started smoking and caused the alarm to go off.

No injuries were reported.
