18-year-old shot to death in Johnston County

SMITHFIELD (WTVD) -- The Johnston County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an 18-year-old was shot to death off Neuse Bend Road in Smithfield Monday afternoon.

Once deputies arrived on scene, Carlos Mejia Escamilla, 18, of Selma was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

Tony Lee Hines, 19, has been charged with murder.

No additional details have been provided.

The shooting is still under investigation.
