Calling all marathon runners! While regular registration for the NYC Marathon is closed, you can still get in for a good cause, and one that has local roots!

ESPN and the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the charity founded by legendary NC State coach Jimmy Valvano, have announced Team V as a charity partner of the TCS New York City Marathon. By committing to raise $3,500 each for cancer research, Team V members will receive VIP amenities, including an exclusive Team V training technical t-shirt, a race day Team V singlet, a pre-race pasta party, a Team V swag bag and an opportunity to share your "Don't Give Up" story on ESPN.

Celebrity team captains include ESPN's SportsCenter anchors Lindsay Czarniak, John Anderson, Trey Wingo and David Lloyd; espnW columnist and on-air host Sarah Spain; co-host of ESPN's Numbers Never Lie and First Take Jemele Hill; cancer survivor and New York Giants' linebacker Mark Herzlich; and former United States women's national soccer team player and current ESPN analyst Julie Foudy. The captains will provide motivational support throughout training, and are expected to mingle with Team V at the pre-race pasta party.

But time is running out. Runners have to register by September 15th. The marathon will take place November 2, 2014 in New York City. You can register here: http://www.jimmyv.org/teamv-events/tcs-nyc-marathon-2014/

The V Foundatation says Team V members will have until December 31, 2014, to meet the $3,500 fundraising minimum. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from events will benefit The V Foundation to support cancer research.
