Does it Work? D_Skin protective disc skin

KNIGHTDALE

Kisha Poppe says her family has a tough time keeping their DVD's and CD's scratch free. Her 2-year-old Brooke loves to get her hands on her favorite DVD. So Kisha was anxious to try the d_skin, which claims to stop disc abuse. You just snap it on your DVD, data, video game and music discs.

The claim is that once all eight tabs are snapped on you don't worry about taking it off to play. Your discs are readable right through the skin. Kisha tells Troubleshooter Diane Wilson, "It was pretty easy for us to put them on and very easy to understand. The whole idea is awesome that we have something that protects the DVD. We can lay them around in the car and around the house without the kids messing them up."

So do the DVD's and CD's actually play normally with the d-skin on? Kisha says, "For the CD's that we had, they worked fine." As for the DVD's, Kisha says they had some problems at times. She adds,"Initially it worked but then after three or four minutes it started to skip. I went back and I played it the same section just to see what it would do and it didn't skip but then when I put the cover on it did skip."

Also the d_skin will not work in multi disc slot loading players like in your car, which is explained on the packaging. The skins work best in a tray-loaded system, not a front-loaded system. One more potential problem is when a curious kid figures out there's something different about her DVD. Kisha says, "My little 2 year old could grab it and take it off without any problems." And when Brooke did, she wrinkled the d_skin, which led to more skipping DVD's. Despite those problems Kisha liked the product. She said "If they could find something that secures it better and be child proof that would be really good."

We agree, it's a great idea and even though your kids may take them off every now and then a set of five only costs $6.95. So, you're spending a little over a dollar to protect that $20.00 DVD. D_skin's CEO told us they're not indestructible, but they do work, and they do protect more than children damage.
