Person of the Week: James Stephens III

DURHAM

This year, it's going to a senior at Jordan High School named Julian Cobb.

Comedian, actor and writer James Stephens III is the youngest of eight kids. When he was seven, his father died and another family took him in. He's done very well in life, and now lives here in our area. He pays it forward by blessing others - especially kids.

"Because I think most kids are basically great kids," he told ABC11.

Stephens has given a scholarship to Cobb who's headed to NC State this fall.

"I thought, 'Hey he's pretty good in the community. He comes back. He really cares about the children and why not apply,' and I actually got it," said Cobb.

Stephens also goes into schools. Recently at Jordan High, he told students never to give up.

"I could always be whatever. I have 4-5 degrees on my way because I studied. To be the best you can be, it's about education," he said.
