Eutha Tart said she was anxious to move into her new modular home. Her family had been displaced for months after a fire in February ripped through their home.
"We lost everything in the fire, it was just horrible," she said.
For their new home, Tart and her family went with a modular home from Choo Choo Homes in Fayetteville.
She along with her husband, veteran son who was injured in war, and her grandchildren were all excited to move in.
"The deadline would be done by June 30th," Tart said she was told.
The home was put on the lot on June 1, but from there Choo Choo Homes hit problem after problem when it came to getting the home inspected.
"We never passed inspection, not one," Tart said.
Besides inspection problems, the home did not have everything the Tart's paid extra for, like $3,000 for a porch and another $3,000 for a brick foundation.
"I said, 'Mr. Charles we asked for a brick foundation,' and he said, 'This house has to be cinder blocks that's how it's going to be,'" Tart said.
When I got in touch with the owner of Choo Choo Homes, Charles Dent, he said the home had to be put on cider blocks, not bricks in order to pass inspection.
When it came to the numerous inspections that failed, he admitted they hit many roadblocks with the county, but said everything had been taken care of and the house would pass inspection.
But the day we were there, it failed yet another inspection - this time problems with the duct work.
"No family should ever have to go through this, no family," Tart said.
Crews with Choo Choo Homes got right to work. After another inspection, everything passed and the Tart's could move in
"Just get a home, settle down, and not be stressed out," Tart said.
There were several issues with the home once the Tart's moved in, however, the good news was the warranty covered all of them and the Tart's said they are enjoying their home.
When it comes to the porch, brick foundation, and some other items, Choo Choo Homes promised but did not deliver. The owner of Choo Choo Homes is slowly paying the Tart's back. He said he would give back what he owes the Tarts, but it would just take him time.
