NEW YORK, NY -- New York City police are looking for a gunman who opened fire in a crowded elevator in Brooklyn, and they're hoping surveillance video will lead to an arrest.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday inside 940 Gates Avenue in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section.

Authorities say the victim, a 25-year-old man, was exiting the elevator when the suspect approached and shot him in the torso.

The suspect then fled the scene.

The victim was transported to Kings County Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
