Third-grader offers advice to Hagan and Tillis
8-year-old Carson Park wants to know why the candidates "say mean things about each other."

A Wake County third grader has some political advice for Senator Kay Hagan and N.C. Speaker Thom Tillis, who are facing off in one of the most hotly contested Senate races in the country.

Eight-year-old Carson Park wrote a letter to the candidates, asking why their ads say "mean things about each other" when they should be focusing instead on what they're going to do for us.

She said watching the ads makes her sad, and would discourage her from voting. "You don't know what they're really like," she said of the candidates.

Park is a student at Vance Elementary in Raleigh, where her class is taking part in a program focused on creating a positive school climate.
