RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting of a 7-year-old boy in the 4200 block of Ferriday Court off Castlegate Drive northeast of Raleigh.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The child was taken to WakeMed North by private vehicle before deputies arrived and then transferred to Duke.
Sheriff Donnie Harrison told ABC11 it appears the child was seriously hurt.
"They said it was a gunshot wound to the head. We can't confirm that. We're going by what we've been told," said Harrison.
The sheriff said three additional children -- ages 10-years-old, 4-years-old, and 7-months-old -- were in the home when it happened. Also present were the child's 41-year-old mother and a 17 and 21-year-old.
Deputies were working to learn how the shooting happened.
The child's condition was not immediately available.
