SILER CITY, N.C. (WTVD) -- One high schooler got the thrill of his life when the whole school rallied behind him.

Cody Whitt is a senior at Jordan-Matthews High School in Siler City and has Down syndrome. After his teacher encouraged him, he decided to run for Homecoming King.

The high school uses fundraising for charity to select their Homecoming King. Each year the boy who raises the most money for a selected charity wins the coveted title.

When it came time to announce the winner, Cody got a wonderful surprise. The 13 other boys who were running for Homecoming King all gave their donation boxes to Cody to help him win.

At a pep rally on November 6, the school crowned Cody king. All of the students in the stands were cheering and chanting his name as they put on the crown and robe.

The previous record set for the most money raised was $250 and Cody blew it away, raising $1500.

To make it even sweeter all the money raised went to a teacher at the school who has breast cancer.
