4 killed in crash near Garland

GARLAND, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol says four people are dead after a pickup truck ran off the road and hit a tree on Highway 701 south of Garland near the Sampson/Bladen County line.

Two more people are hurt.

Officials released the names of the people who died Monday morning. They are Karl Lamont Jones, 54, of Lakeland, FL., Melquiades Ramirez, 24, of Harrells, Ricardo Ramirez, 21, of Harrells, and Luis Felipe Rocha Madrigal, 24, of Harrells.

The two other people who were hurt are Rachel Gault, 29, of Harrells, and Victor Manuel Lobaton Mendoza, 24, of Harrells.

Troopers said the truck went off the road to the right and overturned before it hit the tree around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
