RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The man accused of shooting a woman to death in a Cary apartment complex parking lot Friday night now faces a new assault charge.
The Wake County Sheriff's Office filed a warrant Tuesday charging 36-year-old Daniel Remington with simple assault on a fellow jail inmate.
The sheriff's department won't release information about location of inmates, so they aren't confirming the details. However, ABC11 was able to put together details using public records.
Remington is an inmate in one of Wake County's two jails. We also know 46-year-old Charles Dennison Hodge is also a jail inmate.
According to his arrest warrant, Remington "punched Mr. Hodge while he was asleep." Hodge was apparently not seriously injured since Remington was charged only with simple assault.
Remington is awaiting trial in the murder of 58-year-old Wendy Johnson at the Hyde Park Court Apartments Friday around 11 p.m.
Johnson was a nurse to a special needs child by night. By day, she cared for her grandchildren as well as her own special needs son.
Remington remains in jail without bond. ABC11 has learned he has a long rap sheet that includes mostly breaking and entering charges, although he was convicted 15 years ago of assault on a female and assault by pointing a gun.
