DUNN, NC (WTVD) -- Firefighters responded to a large fire Tuesday afternoon at a warehouse in the 23-hundred block of US Highway 301 just south of Dunn.
Officials said it was the old Alphin Brothers frozen foods warehouse which was badly damaged by tornadoes 5-6 years ago and abandoned.
"When we first got here, there was heavy fire in the middle part of the building, heavy smoke," said Assistant Chief Tracey Strickland of the Dunn Emergency Services. "Had no one inside, no injuries, and we were able to knock it down pretty quick."
Chopper 11HD was overhead as smoke was billowing out from the burning building. The blaze did not threaten a large Food Lion distribution warehouse next door, according to authorities. By late afternoon the fire was down to smoldering ruins.
So far no word on what started the fire.
Firefighters from Harnett, Cumberland, and Sampson counties were all responding.
