Triangle Rising Stars sends teens to Broadway

DURHAM (WTVD) -- In June, two Triangle high school students got the chance of a lifetime. They spent a week in New York City working with Broadway professionals and performing at Nederlander's Minskoff Theatre. Ainsley Seiger from Apex High School and Jacob Bush from Green Hope High School were the winners of this year's Triangle Rising Stars.

In 2011, the Durham Performing Arts Center established Triangle Rising Stars, a regional qualifying event as part of The National High School Musical Theatre Awards. This national competition celebrates outstanding student performances in a high school musical productions across the United States.

Seiger, played Wednesday in Apex High School's production of Addam's Family, and Bush played Amos in Green Hope High School's production of Chicago. The were chosen as best actress and best actor from a field of more than 80 students who applied for the 2016 Triangle Rising Stars program. Both students also won a $1,000 scholarship.

Seiger is also playing the lead in PlayMakers' Summer Youth Conservatory production of Violet that will run from July 20 - 31 at PlayMakers in Chapel Hill.
