Facebook hosts military-focused small business summit in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, NC. (WTVD) -- Social media giant Facebook landed in Fayetteville to host a summit geared toward military entrepreneurs Monday.
The first Veteran and Military Family Small Business Boost took place at the Crown Complex. The summit was aimed towards teaching veterans and military-connected small business owners about the ins and outs of social media, and how it can help them grow and maintain business models.
"Veterans and military members and active duty service members to sacrifice so much on behalf of our nation and if Facebook can help in any way then we wanted to be a part of it," said Andy Stone, a spokesman with Facebook.
Stone said Facebook focused on military-connected small business for the first time, deciding Fayetteville was a no-brainer location to hold the seminar. About 300 people were registered for the event.
"Also, for our military families are spouses who need to find employment," added Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC), whose second district includes Fayetteville and Fort Bragg. "As a woman, most of our small businesses are owned by women, and we need to do everything we can to ensure they're successful."
The Small Business Boost was also supported by the Blue Star Families and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
Facebook continues its North Carolina tour this week with stops in Hickory and Concord.
