Former Fuquay-Varina commissioner pleads guilty to sexual battery

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Former Town of Fuquay-Varina Commissioner James Abernathy pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual battery involving young women in a Raleigh courtroom Friday morning.

Abernathy was indicted by a Wake County grand jury in 2013.

He was sentenced Monday to five years of supervised probation and must register as a sex offender.
