Gas leak evacuates school
Students were evacuated due to a gas leak in Fayetteville on Tuesday

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- About 600 students were evacuated from Freedom Christian Academy in Fayetteville Tuesday afternoon because of a gas leak.



The Fayetteville Fire Department said the incident began just after 2 p.m. when construction workers cut an underground pipe.



The school is located at 3130 Gillespie St. near Fayetteville Regional Airport.



The gas leak was capped and students were allowed to return to class.



According to Fayetteville Fire and Emergency Management, one child reportedly became ill during the evacuation. It is not known if the child was taken to the hospital or not.



North Carolina Natural Gas repaired the leak just before 5 p.m.
