Gas tanker overturns in Cumberland County; driver hurt

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC (WTVD) -- A gas tanker crashed and overturned in Cumberland County on Monday night.

It happened on Highway 87 near Smith Road.

The driver lost control and went off the road. The tanker flipped and started leaking diesel fuel.

A Haz-Mat team was called out to clean up the spill.

The driver was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Northbound 87 remained closed into late Monday evening.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
