TIMBERLAKE (WTVD) -- A worker died in an apparent accident Tuesday at the GKN Driveline Plant in Person County.
It happened about 10 a.m. at the plant at 6400 Durham Road in Timberlake.
"Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased," said Kimberly Byerley, Vice President Human Resources, Americas. "We're working closely with the appropriate authorities to determine the details."
Available details seem to suggest a worker fell from the roof and was impaled when he landed on some sort of equipment or tools.
The North Carolina Department of Labor confirmed it has received a notice from GKN about the death.
An investigation and final report is expected to take three or four months, the Dept. of Labor said.
The identity of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.
GKN is a leading manufacturer of automotive components. The company employs 25,500 people at 46 locations in 23 countries, according to its website. Locally, GKN Driveline employs more than 950 people in Alamance, Lee and Person counties.
